ALGIERS- President Abdelmadjid Tebboune inaugurated the National Committee for Cancer Prevention and Control on Sunday, according to a statement by the presidency. The committee, established by presidential decree, has been appointed to play a crucial role in the country’s efforts to address the challenges posed by cancer. The committee’s president, Professor Ada Bounedjar, will be supported by five other members: Prof. Ouahiba Ouahyoune, Prof. Fatiha Kachi, Prof. Mohamed Oukal, Prof. Khadidja Boudaoud, and Prof. Nabil Yafour.
In addition to ensuring the comprehensive care of socially insured cancer patients, President Tebboune has directed the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security to take immediate and full responsibility for cancer patients without social insurance. Importantly, this directive eliminates the need for any prior administrative procedures.
To alleviate the burden on families of cancer patients, President Tebboune has instructed that patients should receive care upon their arrival at the hospital. All necessary corrective measures, including the provision of medical supplies such as laboratory reagents and medications, will be taken promptly, bypassing bureaucratic procedures.
Furthermore, the President has ordered the training of radiology specialists for early cancer detection in specialized institutes. This initiative will leverage various training capacities, including military health resources. An executive body for administrative, financial, monitoring, and cancer control management will be established, complementing the advisory role of the current National Committee.
These comprehensive measures underline the government’s commitment to enhancing cancer care, streamlining administrative processes, and ensuring immediate assistance for patients, regardless of their social insurance status. The President’s directives aim to create an efficient and responsive healthcare system to tackle the challenges posed by cancer in Algeria.
