The 100-kilometer rail project marks a transformative milestone in national connectivity and regional development, reinforcing Algeria’s infrastructure blueprint and integration strategy.
Algiers, Algeria | April 24th, 2025 — In a decisive step towards advancing Algeria’s strategic infrastructure network and deepening regional integration, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune inaugurated on Thursday the new “Béchar–Abadla” railway line. Stretching over 100 kilometers, the newly launched track is set to revolutionize transport connectivity and unlock significant economic potential in the country’s southwest.
The inauguration took place as part of President Tebboune’s working and inspection visit to the wilaya of Béchar, during which he oversaw a series of development projects vital to the region’s socio-economic advancement. The President was accompanied by high-ranking officials, including Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, and several government ministers.
The rail line is expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering local economies by easing the movement of goods and people, reducing transportation costs, and facilitating access to national and regional markets. It also aims to enhance logistical chains and support forthcoming mega projects planned in the greater Saoura region.
Moreover, the initiative is viewed as a key component of Algeria’s broader agenda to integrate remote and border provinces into the national economic fabric, while also boosting employment and improving living standards in underserved areas.
