They further emphasized the need to take practical steps based on the roadmap for the development of bilateral cooperation.

The two parties also referred to “the current situation in the occupied State of Palestine which is witnessing abuses and attacks, particularly in the West Bank, and the desecration of the Al Aqsa mosque, termed as a flagrant provocation against one and a half billion Muslims in this holy month”.

In this vein, the Iranian president said, “Today, more than ever, the necessity of cooperation and forming a united front comprised of Islamic countries against the Zionist regime and in firm support of the Palestinian nation is urgent.”

Tebboune , on his part, said: “The oppressed people of Palestine are suffering from the atrocities at the hands of the Zionist regime during the month of Ramadan, which is the month of piety and worship, and I hope that with the cooperation of Islamic countries, the Palestinian people will be emancipated from being under the oppression of the Zionists.”

“On another level, the two presidents have also given their agreement in principle to exchange visits in the future,” the statement concluded.

On Thursday, President Tebboune received the credentials of the newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Algeria, Mohammad Reza Babai Siahkel. The freshly-appointed Ambassador affirmed the will of his country to further strengthen and promote the relations of cooperation with Algeria on all levels.

The ceremony of presentation of credentials took place in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community abroad, Ahmed Attaf and the director of cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, Mohamed-Nadir Larbaoui.

On March 21, the newly-appointed Iranian ambassador, replacing Mr. Hussein Masha’alchi, presented a copy of his credentials to Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Ataf. The new ambassador had met with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian before leaving for Algeria to assume his duties.
