Algiers, Algeria | December 16th, 2024 — In a decisive step towards elevating Algiers to the stature of a global metropolis, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune presided over a comprehensive presentation on the strategic vision for the development and modernization of the Algerian capital. The event took place on Monday at the Moufdi-Zakaria Palace of Culture in Algiers, in the presence of senior state officials, government members, and the wali of Algiers.
The presentation outlined an ambitious roadmap for modernizing Algiers through an array of cutting-edge projects designed to honor the city’s cultural heritage while meeting the demands of contemporary urbanization. Some of these initiatives are already underway, while others are set to be launched in the short and medium terms. The Algerian government has mobilized substantial resources to implement this transformative strategy, aimed at elevating Algiers to rank among the world’s most prominent capitals.
President Tebboune lauded the strategic vision as “more than acceptable” and “a promising gateway to a brighter future for the capital of our nation.” He underscored the importance of translating this vision into action by establishing clear deadlines and adopting five-year plans to monitor progress and allocate budgets efficiently.
Addressing the audience, President Tebboune emphasized that the success of Algiers’ development would serve as a blueprint for similar initiatives across other regions of Algeria. “Once these projects in the capital are completed, we will extend our focus to other wilayas, such as Constantine—a city of historical resistance and cultural significance that must also claim its rightful share of development,” he declared. He added that this vision encompasses the east, west, center, and southern regions of the country, reinforcing Algeria’s commitment to equitable and comprehensive national development.
The outlined projects aim to merge Algiers’ rich cultural and civilizational legacy with innovative urban planning and infrastructure development. By prioritizing a holistic and forward-thinking approach, the government seeks to reshape Algiers into a symbol of modernity that reflects the aspirations of the Algerian people.
This ambitious initiative signifies Algeria’s broader vision of positioning its cities as dynamic and globally competitive hubs, embodying resilience, progress, and cultural pride.
