Algiers, Algeria | July 5th, 2024 — On the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of Algeria’s Independence and Youth Day, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune honored the memory of the martyrs (Chouhada) of the Algerian Revolution with a solemn ceremony at the Martyrs’ Sanctuary in Algiers.
President Tebboune laid a wreath at the commemorative stele and recited the Fatiha, the opening chapter of the Holy Quran, in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s liberation. This act of reverence underscores the enduring gratitude and respect held for the martyrs who played a pivotal role in securing Algeria’s independence from colonial rule.
The President was accompanied by key figures in the Algerian government, including Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Omar Belhadj, President of the Constitutional Court, Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), Boualem Boualem, Director of the Presidential Cabinet, and various government ministers.
This annual commemoration serves as a poignant reminder of the immense sacrifices made during the War of Liberation. It also reflects the nation’s ongoing commitment to honor its history and the heroes who fought for Algeria’s freedom.
