Algiers, Algeria | November 21st, 2024 — President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a high-level meeting at the Presidency on Thursday, focusing on advancing Algeria’s export sector as a cornerstone of the country’s economic diversification strategy. This pivotal gathering follows the recent appointment of a new government, which introduced significant structural reforms, including the bifurcation of the Ministry of Trade into two distinct entities: the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Market Regulation.
According to a communiqué from the Presidency, the meeting brought together key stakeholders to strategize the enhancement of Algeria’s export capabilities. Participants included Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, and ministers responsible for foreign trade, export promotion, finance, and transportation. Also present were Boualem Boualem, President of the Cabinet at the Presidency, Kamel Moula, Chairman of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council, and Salah Eddine Taleb, Governor of the Bank of Algeria.
Structural Reforms and Sectoral Synergies
The restructuring of the commerce portfolio into two specialized ministries reflects the government’s focus on efficiency and specialization. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion will concentrate on expanding Algeria’s footprint in international markets, while the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Market Regulation will focus on ensuring market stability and supporting local industries.
