President Tebboune Ratifies Agreement to Establish Turkish International School in Algeria

Algiers, Algeria | December 9th, 2024 — President Abdelmadjid Tebboune officially signed a presidential decree ratifying an agreement to open a Turkish International School in Algeria. The decree, dated November 27, 2024, was published in the latest edition of the Official Gazette (Issue 80), marking the formalization of the agreement signed on May 16, 2022, in Ankara.

Under this agreement, the Turkish International School will operate under the supervision of the Turkish Embassy in Algeria, with administrative, financial, and academic affairs managed by the Turkish Maarif Foundation in Algeria. The school is set to provide a world-class education for Turkish, Algerian, and international students residing temporarily or permanently in Algeria, adhering to a curriculum designed by the Maarif Foundation.

The institution will integrate key components of Algerian identity into its curriculum for local students, including Arabic language, Algerian culture, and the nation’s history and geography. The content of these subjects will be jointly coordinated by the school’s Turkish-appointed management board and Algeria’s Ministry of Education.

Furthermore, the teaching of these subjects will be conducted by a qualified team of Algerian and Turkish educators, subject to pedagogical evaluation by Algeria’s Ministry of Education. Importantly, the degrees awarded by the school will be recognized in both Algeria and Turkey, ensuring academic credibility and fostering a bridge of opportunity for its students.
