President Tebboune receives High Representative of EU for Foreign Affairs, Security Policy Josep Borrell Fontelles

ALGIERS– The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, received, today Monday, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell Fontelles, who is on a working visit to Algeria.
The European diplomat Josep Borrell, paid, this morning, a visit to the Martyrs’ Sanctuary (Algiers), where he laid a wreath of flowers in front of the commemorative stele and observed a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of the Glorious Liberation War. Josep Borrell said in a tweet, “moved to meditate in front of the monument of the Algerian Martyrs”. “I pay tribute to all those who lost their lives for the independence of their country,” he wrote.
Arriving yesterday evening in Algeria for a two-day visit, Josep Borrelle was received in an audience by Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Amar Belani.
The meeting made it possible to discuss “the state and prospects of relations between Algeria and the EU, as well as the means of strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields”, indicated a press release from the Prime Minister’s office.
Josep Borrell’s visit follows the one paid by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel to Algeria in September 2022, marking the will of Algeria and the EU to enhance their cooperation in all areas, said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad.
