ALGIERS– President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune ordered to accelerate the pace of implementation of structuring projects, affirming not to accept any slackening in their concretization.
During his periodic interview with national media representatives, broadcast on Friday evening on national television and radio stations, President Tebboune indicated that “the city of Sidi Abdallah, for example, was an arid land, but in 4 and a half years, it has become a city of 250,000 inhabitants. How is it that the deadlines for the construction of a 700 km railway line can extend until 2030? “.
“The construction of a 700 km railway line in 7 years is done at a rate of 200 m/day… We also have the example of the railway line linking El Mohammadia to Bechar, the restoration of which took 11 years, which is inconceivable”, questioned the President of the Republic who affirmed his rejection of “this logic”.
The President of the Republic stressed that Algeria is currently experiencing “a revolution” in terms of development, requiring the elimination of bureaucracy and the acceleration of the pace of work through the use of modern means of production.
In this vein, President Tebboune ordered the conclusion of agreements with countries with proven experience in this area and the strengthening of the experience of the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of the Implementation of Railway Investments (ANESRIF), emphasizing the imperative for managers to show determination in order to carry out this process.
Concerning the development of major structural industrial projects in the Energy and Mining sector, President Tebboune had expressed, during the last Council of Ministers, his rejection of all long-term deadlines for the construction of railway lines to connect Annaba to the Bled El Hadba mine and Béchar to the Gara Djebilet mine via Tindouf, ordering their immediate reduction (deadlines).
