President Tebboune Urges Government to Prioritize Citizens’ Needs with Unwavering Urgency

Algiers, Algeria | November 24th, 2024 — In a decisive directive to the newly restructured government, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasized the imperative of delivering tangible results for Algerian citizens with efficiency and resolve. During the inaugural Council of Ministers meeting following last week’s cabinet reshuffle, the President underscored the necessity of aligning governmental action with his ambitious presidential agenda, reiterating the centrality of citizens’ welfare and Algeria’s strategic development objectives.

Welcoming the new members of Prime Minister Larbaoui’s administration, Tebboune articulated a clear mandate: the rapid and effective execution of sectoral work plans designed to address the nation’s pressing challenges. These plans, he instructed, must be presented at both the Executive and Council of Ministers levels before being implemented on the ground without delay.

Citizen-Centric Governance: A Core Priority

President Tebboune reaffirmed his commitment to putting citizens at the heart of governmental action. This entails prioritizing the public’s concerns and addressing socio-economic issues with resolute determination. Key to this vision is preserving citizens’ purchasing power, a cornerstone of Tebboune’s social policy framework. He outlined a tri-pronged strategy focusing on combating inflation, bolstering domestic production, and implementing progressive wage and allowance adjustments, aiming for up to a 100% increase by 2027.

To underline this commitment, the 2025 Finance Act has earmarked an estimated 660 billion DZD to subsidize essential goods, reinforcing Algeria’s social state principles. Additionally, Tebboune pledged the construction of two million housing units across various schemes and assistance programs, alongside creating 450,000 jobs to stimulate employment opportunities.

Economic Transformation and Strategic Growth Goals

Turning to the economic agenda, President Tebboune set an ambitious target of raising Algeria’s GDP to $400 billion during his second term, aiming to position the country among emerging economies. Export diversification remains a priority, with the President projecting $15 billion in non-hydrocarbon exports by the end of his tenure. To facilitate this, a newly established Ministry of Foreign Trade will focus on expanding Algeria’s export markets and enhancing global trade partnerships.

The burgeoning startup ecosystem also featured prominently in Tebboune’s roadmap. Over the course of his first term, the number of startups surged from 200 to nearly 8,000. The President aims to triple this figure to 20,000 by the end of his second term, cementing Algeria’s status as a regional leader in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Swift Execution and Accountability

The President’s directives carry a sense of urgency, as he tasked the Larbaoui government with translating his electoral promises into actionable results. “The citizen must remain at the core of all government policies,” Tebboune insisted, urging ministers to work tirelessly to fulfill the aspirations of the Algerian people. Prime Minister Larbaoui echoed this sentiment, pledging unwavering commitment to implementing the presidential program with the utmost diligence.

This decisive approach reflects Tebboune’s broader vision of an Algeria that prioritizes its citizens while advancing toward economic resilience and social equity. With lofty ambitions and clear benchmarks, the government faces the formidable task of meeting the President’s expectations and delivering meaningful progress across all sectors.
