ALGIERS- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, represented by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, delivered a speech at the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Kampala, Uganda. President Tebboune called for intensified collective efforts to advocate for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the need to amplify the voice of justice, uphold the rule of law, establish the principle of equality, and prioritize adherence to binding legal frameworks.
He stressed that these principles should supersede all considerations, aligning with international legitimacy and UN resolutions, including those challenging the destructive actions of the Zionist regime on occupied Palestinian territory.
President Tebboune denounced the genocidal war and inhumane practices perpetrated by the occupation forces against innocent Palestinian civilians, including women, children, and infants, particularly in the Gaza Strip. He highlighted this as a stark example of the international community’s failure to impose controls and restrictions applicable to all without discrimination. The Zionist occupation consistently defies international legitimacy, rejecting compliance with UN Security Council resolutions and opting against peaceful options, all without facing accountability or punishment.
In the face of this tragic situation, President Tebboune emphasized the necessity for the Non-Aligned Movement and its member states to assert loudly that the era of impunity and lack of accountability has ended. He commended the movement’s unwavering support for the just Palestinian cause, linking its resolution to the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination. He underscored the firm belief in ending all forms of occupation and dismantling colonial structures, as stated in the concluding document of the summit.
Drawing attention to the Non-Aligned Movement’s history of solidarity with oppressed and colonized peoples, President Tebboune called for support for the right of the Sahrawi people in Western Sahara to self-determination. He denounced the blatant violations of international law, land theft, and exploitation of resources, urging a free and fair referendum organized in accordance with international legitimacy and relevant UN resolutions.
President Tebboune condemned attempts to obscure and distort the just cause of Western Sahara, denying its legitimate and non-negotiable rights.
