Algiers, Algeria | December 19th, 2024 —In a demonstration of deepening strategic ties, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune received senior Russian officials, Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa, and Yunus-Bek Evkurov, Deputy Defense Minister, at the Presidential Palace in Algiers on Thursday. The high-level meeting reflects Algeria’s growing role in fostering international partnerships and addressing critical geopolitical issues.
A Diplomatic Convergence of Interests
The audience, attended by top Algerian officials, including General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army; Boualem Boualem, Director of the Presidential Office; and Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs, underscored the mutual commitment to advancing the outcomes of President Tebboune’s historic state visit to Russia in June 2023.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the discussions highlighted a shared vision for strengthening cooperation across diverse sectors, from defense to economic exchanges, as both nations seek to capitalize on the momentum established during previous engagements.
In parallel, Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held a separate meeting with Mikhail Bogdanov, during which both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved since the agreements reached during President Tebboune’s visit to Moscow.
Their discussions extended beyond bilateral matters, delving into pressing regional and international issues. They analyzed developments in the Sahel-Saharan region, focusing on the deteriorating security landscape. Attention was also directed towards the Middle East, particularly the ongoing crises in Syria and the occupied Palestinian territories. The alignment of perspectives on these matters demonstrates Algeria and Russia’s shared commitment to fostering stability and justice in volatile regions.
