ALGIERS- During a televised meeting with media representatives, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune addressed the upcoming snap presidential election, slated for September 7th. Regarding queries about a potential second term candidacy, President Tebboune indicated that it’s premature for such discussions. He stressed his commitment to ongoing responsibilities before contemplating any electoral bid.
On another level, President Tebboune clarified that the decision to advance the presidential elections to September 7th was purely based on technical considerations. He highlighted December’s historical unsuitability for such elections, referencing the context of the 2019 presidential election.
Additionally, President Tebboune categorically rejected any insinuation that the shift in the electoral schedule was prompted by internal political crises. He dismissed such claims as unfounded propaganda aimed at deceiving the public.
Furthermore, President Tebboune explained that September offers a more appropriate timeframe for elections, as citizens will be adequately prepared to participate. He noted that September coincides with the onset of the social engagement period, fostering an environment conducive to positive and participatory elections.
