ALGIERS- Algeria under the wise leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has seen a qualitative leap in all fields of life despite the repercussions of the global crises including Covid-19 pandemic and Russian-Ukrainian war. The government has made commendable efforts to revitalize the economy, including the launch of mega-projects worth billions of dollars. In addition, the government has set up innovative agricultural and industrial programs to diversify and boost the economy. The commitment to modernization has also led to the implementation of sweeping reforms in many areas of governance aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and participation of citizens.
Additionally, President Tebboune’s government has taken measures to fight corruption and streamline bureaucracy, which has fostered a more favorable business climate in Algeria. Reforms have been implemented to simplify administrative procedures and prevent bureaucratic delays, making it easier for foreign investors to do business in Algeria.
Besides, the government has also taken initiatives to develop small and medium-sized enterprises, providing them greater support and encouraging entrepreneurship, which has led to greater job opportunities and economic growth in the country. The combination of these measures has led to a more stable and diversified economy in Algeria.
On another level, the government has introduced a series of measures to improve the education sector, including revising the curriculum and increasing funding. Besides, the government has also placed emphasis on developing a vibrant research and development sector, which has led to the growth of many new industries in the country.
President Tebboune has demonstrated a firm commitment to the welfare of the Algerian people through significant social programs aimed at improving the living standards of the population. These programs include the introduction of unemployment allowances, an increase in wages, subsidies for basic commodities, affordable housing, and healthcare. Additionally, the government has worked to increase access to electricity, water, and other basic amenities in remote and underserved communities. These efforts, combined with the government’s successful efforts to combat corruption and promote economic development, have led to a qualitative leap in the country’s development, and Algeria is increasingly seen as a positive example in the region.
This is illustrated in the World Bank’s report, which welcomed the progress made by Algeria in terms of the implementation of the various projects of structural reform initiated over the past two years to improve the economic and financial environment.
In fact, the World Bank hailed Algeria’s economic reforms as a catalyst for the country’s economic growth. Algeria has been working towards diversifying its economy for years now, with the hope of moving away from an over-reliance on oil revenues. The reforms introduced are aimed at enhancing investment and increasing the country’s overall competitiveness. One of the striking features of the Algerian economic reforms is the increased focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. The country has adopted several policies to support the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sector, which is critical to achieving a diversified and inclusive economy.
In terms of structural reforms, the WB report also highlighted the advent of the new investment law, indicating that it aims “to improve the business climate in order to increase private, national, and foreign investments in the activities of the production of goods and services.”
Internationally and for decades, Algeria had been absent from the regional diplomatic scene. Although conflicts in neighboring countries posed a serious security threat, Algiers lacked modern and proactive policies to address them. As President Tebboune took office, he reasserted Algeria’s role in addressing regional crises. Subsequently, New Algeria, whose foundations were laid by President Tebboune amidst international changing circumstances, has reinforced its regional and international position, playing a pivotal and pioneering role through its solidarity with the liberation movements in the world. New Algeria is playing a leading and axial geopolitical role in the region based on its long-standing principles. President Tebboune gave new impetus to a disempowered diplomatic apparatus, and in a very short time, he managed to place Algeria on the world chessboard.
As for the sporting events, world organizations hailed the exceptional organization of the multisport events held in Algeria, the last of which is the ongoing TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). In fact, the sumptuous and majestic organization illustrates the leading role of our country in all spheres.
Regarding the military sphere, a range of tactical exercises with live ammunition are being conducted by the Algerian Army’s different battalions under the supervision of the General of the Army Corps and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), Sad Chanegriha. The images transmitted are impressive and testify to the mastery acquired by our Army and their degree of preparation and readiness for combat.
One of the exercises that illustrated the Algerian army’s strength was the “African Lion” 2021 international military exercise. This exercise saw the integration of various military units from different nations, coming together to enhance each other’s capabilities. The exercise was focused on training forces in counter-terrorism and modern tactics, which are essential to the security of Algeria. The Algerian army demonstrated its high intelligence and comprehension by showcasing its capability through the use of state-of-the-art weaponry, combat vehicles, and sophisticated electronic surveillance equipment. These demonstrated capabilities served to boost the armed forces’ confidence while reinforcing Algeria’s position as a force to reckon with in the African region.
For the time being, the Army Chief is supervising the exercise entitled “Azm 2023,” demonstrating Algeria’s commitment to safeguarding its borders and protecting its people from external aggression.
In conclusion, the era of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which began in December 2019, has resulted in significant economic advancements that have brought stability and growth to the North African country. Tebboune’s economic policies have concentrated on bolstering the country’s non-oil sector by increasing public funding and incentivizing foreign investment. This has resulted in a reduction in the country’s dependency on oil exports, which were previously the mainstay of the Algerian economy.
By fostering a more favorable business climate, reducing corruption, and encouraging the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, the Algerian government has diversified and strengthened its economy, reducing its dependency on oil exports. This has not only provided more opportunities for Algerian businesses and workers but has also encouraged foreign investment in the country. These achievements are added to those recorded in the other fields. Overall, the Tebboune era holds tremendous promise for a more prosperous future for Algeria. Under his far-sighted leadership, Algeria has become an attractive country that is able to join the BRICS group. Eager to anticipate tomorrow’s big challenges, President Tebboune has never ceased to surprise us, and the year 2023 will be full of good surprises.
