ALGIERS- President Abdelmadjid Tebboune received a phone call from his French counterpart, President Emmanuel Macron, on Monday, as announced by the Algerian presidency in a statement.

During the conversation, the two Presidents discussed bilateral relations and regional and international matters of mutual interest.

President Tebboune expressed deep concern over the evolving situation in occupied Palestine, particularly in Gaza, according to the statement.

In terms of Algerian-French cooperation, the leaders highlighted common economic prospects benefiting both countries, particularly in agriculture, energy, rare earth minerals, and the railway industry.

The statement also confirmed that the two Presidents agreed on President Tebboune’s official visit to France, scheduled for late September and early October, with the exact dates to be determined later.

It’s worth noting that President Tebboune’s state visit to France was initially announced for May 2023 before being postponed indefinitely. In December last year, Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf explained on Al Jazeera that there were five issues causing the delay.

These issues included matters related to historical memory, mobility, economic cooperation, the consequences of nuclear testing, and the restitution of belongings belonging to Emir Abdelkader.

However, Attaf clarified that discussions were ongoing between the two parties.
