President Tebboune’s Successful Regional Tour: Advancing Algeria’s Diplomatic Influence and Cooperative Ties

Algiers, Algeria | October 31st, 2024 — President Abdelmadjid Tebboune returned to Algiers on Wednesday, wrapping up a fruitful regional tour marked by strengthened alliances with Egypt and Oman. These visits underscored Algeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and fostering collaboration on critical issues affecting the Arab world, particularly concerning Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, and Libya.
In both Cairo and Muscat, President Tebboune showcased Algeria’s determination to elevate economic engagement with Egypt and Oman. Highlighting Algeria’s potential as a dynamic investment hub, he outlined promising opportunities in targeted growth sectors, from urban development and infrastructure to renewable energy and electricity. The Algerian-Egyptian partnership, in particular, promises new momentum, with both nations committing to tangible steps for enhanced trade and investment. This spirit of cooperation will be formalized at the 9th session of the Algerian-Egyptian Joint Commission set to convene in Cairo in 2025.
During joint statements with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Tebboune emphasized Algeria’s commitment to “greater cooperation” with Egypt, backed by robust investment prospects. In a significant gesture of support for Egyptian expertise, Tebboune announced a collaborative framework led by Algeria’s Minister of Housing to leverage Egypt’s experience in architectural design and new city construction.
Demonstrating Algeria’s openness to Egyptian investment, Tebboune met with Egyptian business mogul Ahmed Sadek El Sewedy, owner of Egypt’s largest company specializing in the energy sector. This strategic meeting sent a clear message of Algeria’s readiness to welcome Egyptian partners, particularly in the energy field, to build a sustainable economic bridge between the two nations.
The discussions with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq were equally forward-looking, resulting in the identification of fresh avenues for cooperation. These new projects will be steered by the Algerian-Omani Joint Commission, which last convened in June 2024, reflecting both nations’ commitment to a thriving partnership rooted in mutual benefit.
Beyond economic diplomacy, Tebboune’s tour provided a platform to reaffirm Algeria’s unwavering stance on Arab solidarity. Speaking on the Palestinian cause, Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s tireless advocacy at the United Nations to halt the aggression against Gaza and commended the resilience of its people in the face of what he unequivocally termed “genocide.” He underscored Algeria’s ongoing commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along 1967 borders with East El Quds as its capital, affirming, “Our position has never changed and will never change.”
On the issue of Libya, Tebboune reinforced Algeria’s firm stance advocating for a “Libyan-led solution” through democratic elections, while expressing deep regret over the fraternal conflict unfolding in Sudan. Tebboune’s comments stressed Algeria and Egypt’s shared principle of non-interference, underlining their efforts to foster peace without imposing external agendas.
President Tebboune’s regional tour has amplified Algeria’s role as a diplomatic mediator and economic partner, reaffirming its dedication to fostering Arab unity and advancing peaceful resolutions across the region.
