President Tebboune’s Trip to Qatar: Bolstering Bilateral Ties, Fostering Closer Relations with Algeria’s Key Investor

Algiers, July 15, 2023 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune embarked, today, on a two-day working visit to Qatar, signifying the deepening partnership between the two nations. The visit marks President Tebboune’s third trip to Qatar and highlights the growing economic cooperation and political alliance between Algeria and its largest investor, Qatar.
During his visit, President Tebboune will hold crucial discussions with the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al Thani. The meeting will focus on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries, with an emphasis on economic collaboration and shared political interests. Algeria and Qatar have long maintained a close brotherly relationship, united by their common vision and steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.
Qatar’s investment in Algeria has been instrumental in driving economic growth, with 74% of the total foreign investment in the country originating from Qatar. This significant investment spans various sectors, including the flagship “Bellara” steel factory in Jijel and the leading telecommunications provider, “Ooredoo for communications.” Moreover, the Algerian-Qatari-German hospital project exemplifies the deepening cooperation in sectors such as industrial, agricultural, tourism, energy, mining, health, sports, maritime, cultural fields, media, and fishing.
The partnership between the two nations is not limited to Qatar’s investment in Algeria. Many Algerian companies have also seized opportunities in the Qatari market, establishing fruitful collaborations with Qatari counterparts across numerous sectors. A total of 169 Algerian companies currently operate in Qatar, contributing to the bilateral economic growth and fostering mutual prosperity. These investments span various domains, including trade, entrepreneurship, services, fashion, furniture, decoration, and education.
President Tebboune’s visit to Qatar at this juncture signifies the mutual commitment of both nations to strengthen their strategic partnership and deepen their understanding. The discussions between President Tebboune and Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al Thani are expected to pave the way for further collaboration and bolster the already robust ties between Algeria and Qatar.
As Algeria continues its path of economic diversification and development, Qatar’ steadfast support and significant investments contribute immensely to the nation’s progress.
