President Tebboune’s Visit to Moscow Shook the Throne: The MAK Unveils Its Allegiance in Rabat
BY: Hana Saada
ALGIERS- In a shocking revelation, the separatist organization known as the MAK (Movement for the Autonomy of Kabylie) has once again demonstrated its allegiance to foreign powers and its true intentions to destabilize Algeria. Classified as a terrorist group, the MAK has long been suspected of serving the interests of the Moroccan intelligence services and Zionist agendas. However, recent events have shed further light on their conspiratorial activities.
Despite facing strong opposition from the Kabyle population, who reject the MAK’ separatist project just as vehemently as other Algerians, the organization has taken another step in its campaign of high treason. According to the independent news site Middle East Eye, the MAK recently hired an American lobbyist based in Morocco to garner support from US officials and lawmakers. This move further confirms the organization’s unwavering commitment to the conspiratorial policies pursued by Rabat against Algeria.
“According to registration documents filed this week at the US Department of Justice, MAK has recruited Elisabeth Myers, an American lawyer, to represent it in Washington. The contract was signed on 25 June. Myers registered as a lobbyist using an address in Marrakech on the same day,” noted the Middle East Eye.
“Activities will involve promotion of US friendship with Kabylia, along with an understanding of the region, its people, and the impact of the Algerian government’s strong-arm tactics over the region,” the documents say.
MAK has already secured meetings with two US lawmakers’ offices. On Thursday, Kabylie independence leader Ferhat Mehenni will meet virtually with senior officials from Democratic Senator Tim Kaine’s office and Democratic Congressman Don Beyer, a source familiar with the matter told Middle East Eye.
“MAK will underscore the Algerian government’s cosiness to [President Vladimir] Putin’s Russia and ensure congressional staff have a better understanding of the government’s sweeping human rights violations against peaceful protesters and political opponents,” the source told MEE.
The timing of this alliance with a US lobbyist raises questions about the influence of Algerian foreign policy. It appears that President Tebboune’s recent visit to Moscow and its strategic significance have had a profound impact on the Moroccan monarchy, causing them to activate the MAK in panic and desperation. Is the MAK, which was already struggling to maintain credibility, now acting as a mere extension of the Moroccan regime?
The MAK’s recruitment of an American lawyer, registered as a lobbyist at the US Department of Justice with an address in Marrakech, has raised eyebrows. According to Middle East Eye, the contract was signed on June 25, and the MAK has already held meetings with the offices of two US lawmakers. The report even suggests that Ferhat Mehenni, the founder of the MAK, was scheduled to virtually meet with a US senator and congressman. Such actions beg the question: was Mehenni acting on behalf of the Moroccan intelligence apparatus?
This latest revelation has exposed the true nature of the MAK as a puppet organization serving the enemies of Algeria. Several years ago, a French deputy warned about the group, stating, “The MAK is a separatist organization which plots to destabilize Algeria with the help of foreign countries.” The presence of the MAK at events such as the party of the newspaper L’Humanité has been a cause for concern. The deputy highlighted that during the colonial era, it was common practice in France to incite Kabyle separatist movements.
The actions of the MAK have clearly demonstrated their alignment with foreign interests and their willingness to undermine Algeria’ stability. Algerians and the international community must continue to reject the manipulative tactics employed by the MAK and its backers. The unity and resilience of the Algerian people, irrespective of their regional affiliations, will prevail over such attempts to undermine their sovereignty and unity.
