ALGIERS- In an event held at the International Conference Center “Abdelatif Rahal” in Algiers, Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, presided over the opening of the 6th African Judicial Dialogue organized by the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR).

The dialogue, operating under the theme “Promotion of Human Rights in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities Related to Transposing Regional and International Human Rights Jurisprudence at the National Judiciary Level,” commenced its proceedings in the presence of government officials, presidential advisers, and AfCHPR President Imani Daud Aboud.

Among the distinguished participants were Supreme Court Presidents from African Union (AU) member countries, a delegation from the Constitutional Council of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), representatives from regional judicial and parajudicial bodies, and other AU organs.

The primary objective of this dialogue is to provide a platform for participants to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with incorporating regional and international human rights jurisprudence into national judicial systems across Africa.

These deliberations, held every two years as mandated by the AU Executive Council’s decision, serve as a crucial forum for addressing the complex dynamics of human rights within the continent’s legal frameworks. The theme reflects a commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of how regional and international human rights standards can be effectively integrated into the fabric of national legal systems.

The dialogue, extending until Wednesday, is expected to generate valuable insights, promote collaboration among judicial bodies, and contribute to the ongoing efforts to strengthen the protection and promotion of human rights across Africa. As the continent navigates the evolving landscape of human rights, such initiatives play a pivotal role in shaping a collective vision for a just and rights-respecting Africa.
