Algiers, Algeria | September 29th, 2024 — In a strategic initiative to enhance Algeria’s professional training landscape, the Ministry of Vocational Training and Education and the General Directorate of Customs (DGD) signed a cooperation agreement on Sunday. This partnership is aimed at integrating customs-related specializations into the national vocational training system.

The signing ceremony was attended by Yacine Merabi, Minister of Vocational Training and Education, and Major-General Abdelhafid Bakhouche, Director-General of Customs. The official agreement was signed by Aissa Brahimi, Director of Finance and Resources at the Ministry, and Sabrina Lebou, Director of the National Customs Training Center.

Minister Merabi underscored the importance of the agreement, explaining that it marks a critical step in expanding the vocational training curriculum. “This partnership will broaden the range of national vocational training programs by introducing new disciplines directly connected to the customs sector,” he said, highlighting the need to develop specialized skills for trainers and supervisors to meet the demands of this industry.

As per the agreement, a joint commission will be formed to develop an annual action plan, defining specific activities and ensuring the allocation of resources necessary for the successful execution of these initiatives.

Major-General Bakhouche praised the agreement as a crucial move toward knowledge sharing between the Customs Directorate and vocational training institutions. He stressed the DGD’s focus on training, particularly in light of digitization and modernization efforts. “This agreement embodies our forward-thinking vision and our commitment to strengthening customs expertise and operational efficiency,” Bakhouche remarked.

The cooperation reflects a concerted effort to modernize Algeria’s vocational training programs, ensuring they align with the needs of the customs sector and contribute to broader national economic development strategies.
