Founding Member and UNESCO Governance Representative Assumes Leadership of Algeria’s Leading Media Training Institution

Algiers, Algeria | April 22nd, 2025 — Professor Khaled Lalaoui was officially appointed as the new Dean of the National School of Journalism and Information Sciences.

 

Professor Lalaoui has been affiliated with the school since its early days in 2009. As a founding faculty member, he played a central role in shaping its structure and identity. In his capacity as Communication Officer, he designed the school’s official logo and launched its first institutional website, contributing to the development of its visual and digital communication.

He has also been an active participant in the school’s academic and administrative bodies, including the Scientific Council and the Board of Directors, where he helped define academic strategies and governance procedures.

Throughout his academic career, Professor Lalaoui held several key positions, including Head of Department and later Deputy Dean for Doctoral Training and Scientific Research. In 2017, he oversaw the launch of the school’s second doctoral program, reinforcing its research profile and academic capacity.

He also founded the journal “Communication and Journalism” in 2018, which became the first peer-reviewed scientific journal in media and communication in Algeria, now serving as a reference in the field for researchers and students.

Internationally, Professor Lalaoui joined the UNESCO Chairs Network in August 2022. In March 2025, he was selected as Africa’s representative on the UNESCO Governance and Steering Committee, reflecting his ongoing commitment to academic cooperation and policy development at a global level.

His appointment as Dean is expected to bring continuity and focus to the school’s academic mission and its role in training media professionals and researchers in Algeria and beyond.
