ALGIERS- A delegation from the General Directorate of Civil Protection, comprising Bachir Bessaoud, Director of Personnel and Training, and Malek Kessal, Director of the National School of Civil Protection, conducted a working visit to the National Operational Center of the Viminale complex in Rome on March 12th and 13th, 2024.

According to a statement from the DGPC, the delegation participated in a coordination meeting with officials from the Italian Civil Protection and Rescue Services at the Italian Ministry of the Interior. The meeting was chaired by the Chief of the Italian Corps, Carlo Dall’Oppio.

During the meeting, both parties discussed means of enhancing cooperation and coordination in civil protection intervention, training, and exchange of expertise. This meeting served as a preparatory step towards a potential future bilateral agreement of collaboration between Italy and Algeria in the field of training and exchange of experiences and knowledge during civil protection interventions.

“The meeting follows the recent visit to Algeria by the Italian Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, for the signing of a cooperation agreement in security to combat terrorism, cybercrime, and human trafficking with his counterpart Brahim Merad. We hope this meeting marks the beginning of a common path towards continuous collaboration in the field of training and sharing technical skills,” emphasized the department head, Renato Franceschelli.

Prior to the coordination meeting, the Algerian delegation met with the Ambassador of Algeria to Rome, Abdelkrim Touahria. During this meeting, the Algerian delegation presented the various missions of the civil protection corps in the protection of individuals and property, as well as the prospects for cooperation with its Italian counterpart.
