New Digital System Streamlines Car Tax Payment, Extends Deadlines, and Enhances Accessibility
Algiers, Algeria | March 5th, 2025 — In a move to modernize fiscal procedures and enhance public convenience, Algeria’s General Directorate of Taxes has officially launched the digital platform “Qasseemtek” on Wednesday. This innovative system allows citizens to acquire vehicle tax stamps remotely, marking a significant shift towards digitalization in tax administration.
According to an official statement from the Directorate, “Qasseemtek” is accessible around the clock, seven days a week, ensuring seamless tax stamp purchases without the constraints of physical office hours. The platform facilitates transactions through interbank payment cards and the “Gold Card,” providing vehicle owners with an efficient, secure, and user-friendly alternative to traditional purchase methods.
One of the most notable features of this digital transformation is the elimination of the mandatory placement of the tax stamp on the vehicle’s windshield for those opting for remote purchase. Instead, car owners are only required to present the digital or printed version of the tax stamp upon request during any road inspection. Furthermore, in the event of damage, loss, or theft of the digital tax stamp, users can effortlessly request a replacement at no additional cost, reinforcing the system’s commitment to accessibility and security.
In response to public demand and to ensure a smoother transition to the new system, authorities have extended the legal deadline for acquiring the 2025 vehicle tax stamp. Initially set for March 31, the deadline has been prolonged until April 30, 2025, granting vehicle owners additional time to complete their tax payment procedures without unnecessary pressure.
Despite the digital convenience, the statement clarified that traditional avenues remain available, with vehicle tax stamps still purchasable at tax collection offices and postal service counters. Additionally, for newly registered vehicles, the Directorate emphasized that the temporary yellow card (provisional registration certificate) holds the same legal status as the permanent vehicle registration document. As such, owners of new vehicles are mandated to acquire the tax stamp within 30 days of the vehicle’s official circulation within national territory.
