Algiers, Algeria | October 27th, 2024 — In a strategic meeting held in Doha on Thursday, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association, reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to expanding its commercial investments in Algeria. Focused on large-scale retail spaces and distribution centers, this commitment was highlighted in a statement from Algeria’s Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion, as the Minister of Trade, Tayeb Zitouni, met with Qatari business leaders to bolster economic cooperation between the two nations.
The meeting, part of Minister Zitouni’s official visit to Qatar, was attended by key Algerian and Qatari dignitaries, including Algeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Salah Attia, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council Kamal Moula, President of the National Union of Public Contractors Cherif Eddine Amara, CEO of the Algerian Exhibition and Export Company (SAFEX) Karim Boukadoum, and several influential Qatari entrepreneurs. Discussions centered on mutual investment interests and trade synergies, with a special focus on opportunities for large-scale commercial development in Algeria.
Expressing confidence in Algeria’s evolving economic landscape, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani remarked on the readiness of Qatari investors to venture into Algeria’s high-potential retail and distribution sectors. According to him, Algeria’s ambitious projects, particularly in the large-scale retail sector, demonstrate the country’s commitment to modernization and economic growth. “These forward-looking projects not only underscore Algeria’s new economic vision but also align with Qatar’s strategic interest in high-growth markets,” he stated.
Minister Zitouni, in turn, emphasized Algeria’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with Qatar, a goal driven by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision of enhancing bilateral economic collaboration. “Under President Tebboune’s guidance, Algeria is pursuing a robust agenda to deepen strategic ties with Qatar, which will undoubtedly enhance trade and investment flows between our nations,” the minister stated. He also underscored the importance of large commercial spaces, noting that these projects are critical to job creation and economic growth in Algeria, contributing directly to the nation’s development goals.
Beyond retail and distribution, the meeting addressed additional investment avenues in Algeria’s other high-potential sectors, notably industry, agriculture, and renewable energy. The Ministry of Commerce highlighted these sectors as essential components of Algeria’s diversification strategy, opening up opportunities for sustainable and high-value investments. The Ministry’s statement praised the potential for substantial Qatari contributions to these fields, which, according to Minister Zitouni, would “accelerate economic resilience and align with Algeria’s broader vision for an inclusive, sustainable economy.”
By fostering these collaborations, both Algeria and Qatar aim to establish a foundation for enduring economic growth and mutual benefit, ultimately strengthening ties between the two nations.
