Algiers, Algeria | January 10th, 2025 — Renowned Algerian journalist and writer Rafik Chelghoum has lauded the ever-growing strength of Algerian-Saudi relations, emphasizing their historical depth, mutual respect, and shared strategic vision. In his recent analysis, Chelghoum portrayed the relationship as currently flourishing, driven by the visionary leadership of both President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Chelghoum highlighted the mutual admiration between the two leaders, with President Tebboune respecting both King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, while the latter is known for his profound appreciation of Algeria and its people. This genuine mutual regard was evidenced by President Tebboune’s choice of Saudi Arabia as his first official visit destination after assuming office, underscoring the significance Algeria places on its bond with the Kingdom.
The Saudi Ambassador to Algeria, Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Bassiri, has also played a pivotal role in reinforcing bilateral ties. Chelghoum recounted a personal meeting with the ambassador, where Al-Bassiri praised Algeria’s leadership, calling President Tebboune “a visionary with a strategic mindset.”
Despite certain historical diplomatic sensitivities, particularly the absence of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman from the 2022 Algiers-hosted Arab Summit, Chelghoum expressed optimism for an even stronger phase in bilateral relations. He emphasized the importance of a forthcoming visit by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Algeria, which he believes would symbolize a renewed era of unity and cooperation.
The anticipated Algerian-Saudi High Coordination Council meeting, set to convene in Algiers in 2025, is expected to further solidify this alliance. Chelghoum expressed hope that the council would be presided over jointly by President Tebboune and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, facilitating landmark agreements across various sectors and cementing the strategic partnership between the two brotherly nations.
