ALGIERS- Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Council for Economic Renewal (CREA), urged operators and industrialists to support the efforts made by the state to combat speculation.
During a press conference held yesterday with industrialists affiliated with this employers’ organization in Algiers, where an initiative for Ramadan price reductions was launched, Moula affirmed that “the organization he leads has taken on the responsibility of supporting the economy and preserving national sovereignty.”
He indicated that the contacted companies have agreed to participate in the solidarity campaign during the sacred month, noting that strengthening solidarity will allow Algerian families to spend Ramadan under good conditions.
In the same context, he hoped that economic operators would demonstrate a sense of responsibility during the sacred month. It is worth noting that for better market regulation, the government has requested through CREA that Algerian companies cooperate to lower the prices of their products during Ramadan.
The government has not set specific rates for price reductions. It is left to the choice of companies that can lower prices and sell more products during Ramadan when household consumption increases significantly. This initiative will be beneficial for both consumers and producers. Companies must also play a social role and actively participate in the national solidarity effort, explained a company executive in a media statement.
Furthermore, the government is increasing measures against speculation, which also causes shortages. Control exercised by the Directorate of Commerce is also strengthened, and restrictions on imports are eased for products under pressure. In addition to maintaining public subsidies for many essential products.
