ALGIERS- In an effort to enable a larger number of consumers to purchase locally produced fresh fish at competitive prices, a total of 174 direct sales points for fish products “from producer to consumer” have been identified nationwide for the month of Ramadan.

These spaces include sales points operated by fishing and aquaculture chambers as well as others from the private sector under contract with these chambers, stated Ahmed Badani, the Minister of Fisheries and Halieutic Productions, on Monday.

Speaking at the “Echaab” newspaper forum, the minister assured that “the operation continues to identify other spaces, with the aim of better meeting the needs of the national market for fish products during the sacred month at economical prices.”

“We are working to renew, under optimal conditions, the direct sale operation of fish products, especially as products from aquaculture farms, such as tilapia, are increasingly sought after by citizens,” he stated.

Additionally, Ahmed Badani announced that a digital platform to identify these direct sales points and make the products more accessible is currently being developed.

Furthermore, Minister Ahmed Badani presided over a coordination meeting last Wednesday dedicated to preparations for supplying the national market with fish and aquaculture products during the month of Ramadan. During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of meeting the national market’s needs for fish products during this sacred month.

In the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters and attended by its officials, as well as the directors of provincial fisheries and presidents of provincial chambers via video conference, Mr. Badani “emphasized the need to create all favorable conditions to meet the national market’s needs for fish products during the sacred month, in addition to preparing and equipping all direct sales points under the provincial chambers or those located at local markets, Ramadan markets, and fishing ports.”
