ALGIERS- Sonatrach Group and the American company Hecate Energy Global Renewables, HGR Energy, signed a memorandum of understanding on renewable energy production this Monday, announced the national group in a statement.

According to the statement, this memorandum of understanding, signed in the presence of Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi and HGR Energy CEO David Wilhelm, will allow the two companies to jointly conduct a feasibility study in a first step to examine the possibilities of implementing a renewable energy production project in Algeria.

The second step, the statement specifies, will include the feasibility of using this energy in green hydrogen production projects.

Sonatrach emphasizes in its statement that HGR Energy is one of the leading developers, owners, and operators of renewable energy projects and storage solutions in North America and other international markets.

“The signing of this memorandum of understanding is in line with the national strategy for the development of renewable energies, to which Sonatrach fully contributes through an ambitious program,” reads Sonatrach’s statement.

The company underscores that the goal of this initiative is to meet the energy needs of its oil and gas sites, in a responsible and sustainable manner, by reducing on-site hydrocarbon consumption and consequently decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
