Repatriation of Algerian Nationals from Lebanon Underway Following Presidential Directives

Algiers, Algeria | October 11th, 2024 — The Algerian government has launched a new operation to repatriate its nationals from Lebanon, following heightened tensions in the region. The operation, which began on Friday, comes in response to the high-level directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to ensure the safety and well-being of the Algerian community residing in Lebanon.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, the plan was swiftly put into action to facilitate the return of 306 Algerian nationals. The evacuees were transported from Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut to Cairo International Airport on two specially chartered flights. From Cairo, they will be flown back to Algeria on Air Algérie, the national carrier.

The repatriation operation is the second of its kind this year, following an earlier one in August 2024 that successfully returned more than 125 Algerians from Lebanon. The Ministry emphasized that every necessary resource has been mobilized to ensure a smooth and efficient operation, allowing the nationals to return in optimal conditions. If required, further repatriation efforts will be organized.
