Constantine, November 1, 2023 – Resident doctors specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Child and Maternity Hospital in Sidi Mabrouk, Constantine, await urgent intervention from the Ministry of Health to address the issues they have been facing with the acting head of the department. Their appeal is to restore tranquility within the hospital and find resolutions to their ongoing problems.
These doctors have called for the immediate dispatch of an investigative committee to assess the situation due to the grievances and injustices they claim to endure daily at the hands of the acting head of the department. The accusations, as reported by some of them to the dzair tube website, paint a concerning picture of their working conditions.
This issue first came to light a month ago when they submitted a complaint on September 27th, raising concerns about threats, harassment during their work, misuse of public funds, abuse of authority, and discrimination among resident doctors. They attribute these problems to the actions of the acting head, which have created a tense atmosphere within the hospital, potentially hindering its smooth operation.
Sources close to some resident doctors reveal that the working environment is hostile and not conducive to their duties. They are now awaiting immediate intervention from the Minister of Health to contain the crisis directly affecting their work.
The resident doctors have formally submitted their complaint to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Constantine, the Director of the Mother and Child Hospital, the Regional Pedagogical Committee for Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Pedagogical Officer, and the Assistant Postgraduate Dean.
Among the accusations, the resident doctors say that the acting head has manipulated practical training schedules and educational days without proper notice, benefiting a select group of residents. Furthermore, the acting head is accused of monopolizing the operating room to the detriment of other residents, going so far as to threaten a fellow resident who was forced to leave the premises.
Additionally, they refer to unjust and unexplained punitive measures, such as the verbal assignment of extra guards without compensation, deductions from salaries, and bonuses. These actions seem to be selective, sparing some while targeting others regarding attendance or dedication to their duties.
The resident doctors hold the acting head responsible for manipulating outpatient cases without proper communication and canceling scheduled cases, causing hardship for the residents.
In light of these accusations, the resident doctors are demanding an end to these injustices, the restoration of their rights and dignity, and protection for all, from those in their early years of training to those on the cusp of graduation.
