ALGIERS-  The Council of Nation vigorously denounced, this Thursday, the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on “the situation of freedom of the press in Algeria”.

Describing the resolution as “flagrant interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state and a provocation against the Algerian people”, the Council of the Nation did not fail, in its press release, to express its frank “disapproval” of a “truncated statement constituting a serious slippage” and “a dangerous precedent” of the European institution.

The Council of Nations added, “This action is a violation of international law, causing this European institution to lose what little credibility it had left in the eyes of honorable nations worldwide.”

The statement asserted that “the European Parliament is an institution characterized by arrogance, as it selectively advocates for human rights in some countries while turning a blind eye to their violation in others. This inconsistency is concerning and undermines the credibility of the institution’s efforts to promote human rights globally.”

The Council of the Nation, led by Salah Goudjil, has recommended that the European Parliament abandon its policy of double standards. It is important for the Parliament to avoid promoting apparent hatred towards countries that do not comply with its policies. Instead, the Council urges the Parliament to focus on regaining its credibility, which has been severely damaged by the corruption scandal that has plagued it for months.

The Council of the Nation suggests that the European Parliament focus its attention on the dire human rights situation in Palestine. Every day, innocent women and children are subjected to heinous crimes and egregious violations. It is imperative that the European Parliament take action to address these atrocities.
