Algiers, Algeria | July 24th, 2024 — In an exclusive interview with Dzair Tube, Abdelaziz Medjahed, the retired Major General and General Director of the National Institute for Global Strategy Studies (INESG), reaffirmed Algeria’s steadfast position on the Western Sahara issue. Medjahed emphasized that Algeria’s commitment to advocating for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination remains unchanged after more than 60 years of struggle.
Medjahed highlighted the historical context of Algeria’s involvement, noting a significant trilateral agreement signed in Tlemcen, which included Algeria, Mauritania, and Morocco. This agreement underscored the necessity of determining the Sahrawi people’s future. Despite this agreement, Medjahed pointed out that Morocco’s stance has fluctuated, but Algeria has consistently championed the cause.
Addressing the Moroccan regime, Medjahed called for exposing the falsehoods propagated by the Moroccan authorities and their allies regarding the Western Sahara conflict. He criticized the Moroccan system as deceptive, serving the interests of external parties rather than benefiting the region or the Moroccan people. Medjahed described such a system as untrustworthy, emphasizing the importance of transparency and honesty in addressing this issue.
Medjahed also praised the Sahrawi people for their resilience and dedication over the past 50 years. He commended their leadership and commitment to self-determination, asserting that they have demonstrated that truth and justice ultimately prevail. According to Medjahed, the Sahrawi people possess responsible and capable leaders who are prepared to guide and lead their nation towards achieving its aspirations.
The General’s remarks underscore Algeria’s ongoing support for the Sahrawi cause and its critique of Moroccan policies, reaffirming its commitment to regional justice and self-determination for the Sahrawi people.
