Revitalizing Algeria’s Fisheries Sector: Ministers Unveil Strategic Roadmap for Enhanced Performance

During the meeting, a series of pressing issues were deliberated, with an emphasis on:
- Modernizing Port Management: Participants reviewed existing management systems for fishing ports, identifying areas for efficiency improvements to streamline operations and enhance infrastructure usage.
- Improving Working Conditions for Fishermen: Discussions highlighted the necessity of addressing fishermen’s concerns, including equitable allocation of berths, ensuring access to well-maintained infrastructure, and optimizing the utilization of port resources.
- Mobilizing Resources for Sectoral Growth: A detailed plan for deploying essential tools and mechanisms to boost the fisheries and aquaculture sectors was explored, focusing on expanding production capacity to meet rising domestic demand.
Immediate Actions and Roadmap Development
In response to the identified challenges, the ministers directed the formation of a joint task force to devise a comprehensive field-based roadmap. This strategic document will integrate regulatory, organizational, and operational measures aimed at achieving the following objectives:
- Enhanced Port Performance: Implementation of advanced management techniques and modern infrastructure to maximize port efficiency.
- Fishermen Support Initiatives: Programs to improve work conditions, boost productivity, and encourage sustainable fishing practices.
