ALGIERS- During a working visit to the Boumerdès province on Monday, Minister of Trade Mr. Tayeb Zitouni announced the initiation of a study aimed at revitalizing activity within the wholesale market located in the El Kharrouba commune.
According to Mr. Zitouni, a significant restructuring operation for this market will be launched in partnership with the local authorities of Boumerdès: “We have decided to demolish buildings that do not meet technical and safety standards within this market and to launch a technical study in partnership with Magros services for the establishment of a national wholesale market for food products, fruits and vegetables, cars, and livestock,” he told the press at the site.
A New Vision for Local Market Management
The Minister of Trade assured that the site housing this market has all the necessary conditions to realize this project proposed by local authorities: “The land area is significant and it can accommodate the desired new project… This site has remained abandoned and unexploited for nearly 30 years, and today we are working to find a definitive solution and we call for the involvement of all relevant parties to exploit this market,” he added.
In the same vein, the Minister of Trade announced the launch, in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior, of a comprehensive national study concerning the management and operation of over 500 markets located across all provinces of the country: “We plan to implement a new management method and a new vision to reorganize the operation of these markets, which are a source of revenue for local communities, with the aim of aligning them to meet the needs and aspirations of citizens regarding the prices of these products,” he emphasized.
