Geneva, Switzerland – Against the backdrop of historical injustices and ongoing human rights violations, members of the Rif National Party have embarked on a mission to hold the Moroccan regime accountable for its actions through international legal channels. Their efforts bring into focus the plight of the Rif population and the need to address past and present grievances.
Submitting a Weighty Case in Geneva
In a bold move, members of the Rif National Party converged at the headquarters of the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva, Switzerland, to submit a comprehensive case. This case aims to shed light on the systematic human rights violations committed against the Rif community, including, among others, displacement, political imprisonment, and the use of toxic gases during the colonial era in the Rif region.
A New Phase of Political Struggle
During a public statement made in front of the United Nations Human Rights Commission headquarters, party members announced their transition into a new phase of political activism. Their primary goal is to expose the crimes of the Moroccan government and pursue justice through the framework of international law.
In an exclusive statement to Dzair Tube’s acclaimed journalist Djamil Djerboua, Youba al-Ghadioui, a prominent figure within the party, emphasized that this case represents the first of many initiatives by the Rif National Party. These initiatives seek to bring to the attention of the international community the human rights abuses and political injustices committed against the Rif population. The party plans to present various human rights and political cases to multiple international institutions.
For his part, the activist Mohand Al-Khalfaoui stated, “With this step, we have transitioned from mere verbal protest to taking concrete action. Our purpose is to shed light on the numerous violations committed against us by the Makhzen regime, including kidnapping and defamation.”
Another activist mentioned that members of the Rif National Party traveled to Geneva to submit the initial human rights dossier against the oppressive Moroccan regime, while also announcing the existence of additional human rights and political files that will be presented to various international institutions. “We were warmly received, and they assured us that they would thoroughly examine the submitted dossier,” he noted.
Unveiling Historical Injustices
In addition to their focus on contemporary issues, the members of the Rif National Party also highlighted the crimes against humanity that took place during the French and Spanish colonial eras in collaboration with the Moroccan regime. They intend to shed light on the historical injustices that have had a lasting impact on the Rif region.
The Rif National Party’s decision to pursue legal action at the United Nations Human Rights Commission signals a significant step towards addressing long-standing grievances and human rights violations in the Rif region. Their determination to utilize international legal mechanisms to seek justice serves as a testament to their commitment to the cause of the Rif population. The case submitted in Geneva is expected to draw the attention of the international community and initiate a dialogue about the human rights situation in the Rif.
