Algiers, Algeria | June 4th, 2024 — In the early stages of the Zionist entityl’s war on the Gaza Strip, tensions have heightened due to Egypt’s staunch opposition to the Zionist entity’s attempts to forcibly evacuate Gaza’s residents. Egypt views these actions as a direct threat to its national security.

The Zionist attack on the Rafah border crossing and the subsequent takeover of the Palestinian side at the beginning of the eighth month of the war have provoked significant anger in Egypt. In response, Cairo has closed its borders with Gaza and halted the flow of aid into the besieged territory. Egyptian media have also begun calling for a reassessment of the Camp David Accords due to these recent developments.

The lack of coordination with the Egyptian military regarding this incursion has further strained relations. Egypt views the Zionist ground attacks on Rafah and the potential control over the crossing as severe security threats. This has led to a significant military build-up on Egypt’s part, with troops and equipment being deployed along the northeastern border in the Sinai Peninsula.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, speaking at a summit of Arab leaders in Manama, accused the Zionist entity of obstructing ceasefire efforts in Gaza. He stated, “Those who believe they can secure their interests or security through military solutions are delusional.” In contrast, Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Egypt of “holding Gaza hostage” by not cooperating to reopen the border crossing.

Egypt has announced its intention to join South Africa in prosecuting the Zionist entity for genocide at the International Criminal Court. Egyptian officials warned that further violations of their red lines by Israel could lead to heightened tensions and disruptions in the operational agreements of the Camp David Accords.

In anticipation of expanded Zionist military operations in Rafah, the Egyptian army has increased its presence along the shared border with Gaza, deploying additional military vehicles and troops to the region.

The West has supported Egypt’s opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, providing economic aid to help stabilize the country. This support has been crucial for Egypt, which has leveraged these concerns to secure substantial financial assistance, helping mitigate its economic challenges.

Egypt has managed to utilize the geopolitical situation to attract significant investments and financial aid. The Saudi government is expected to approve a $20 billion investment in the “Al Jamila” project on the Red Sea, contributing to a total of $60 billion in loans and financial aid from the UAE, the European Union, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.

Some experts link this substantial financial assistance to Egypt’s potential role in the post-war reconstruction phase.
