Algiers, Algeria | November 30th, 2024 — Mustapha Yahi, the Secretary-General of the National Democratic Rally (RND), issued a call on Saturday for a unified response to external forces attempting to destabilize Algeria. Speaking at a party conference on French-Algerian relations, Yahi urged all sectors of Algerian society, including social partners, civil society organizations, human rights groups, and the media, to join forces and vigorously combat any efforts aimed at discrediting Algeria both domestically and internationally.

Yahi stressed that these attempts, which often involve accusations of human rights violations and suppression of freedom of expression, seek to misrepresent Algeria’s true political and social landscape. “The RND calls for solidarity in facing these baseless attacks and defending our country’s image against those who would seek to reverse global opinion and portray Algeria negatively,” Yahi declared, addressing the persistent campaign led by hostile external actors.

Malicious and Desperate Campaigns

In his speech, Yahi condemned a recent media campaign orchestrated by certain extremist politicians and media outlets in France, describing it as “malicious” and driven by lobbies with a long-standing hostility toward Algeria. He pointed specifically to figures from the far-right, Zionist lobbies, and factions of Morocco’s Makhzen regime, accusing them of manipulating the narrative to accuse Algeria of human rights abuses.

“These lobbies, which are well known for their animosity toward Algeria, attempt to use the façade of defending writers and freedom of expression to push their own agendas,” Yahi said. He further emphasized that Algeria remains an independent country with robust constitutional, legal, and judicial institutions that respect laws, rights, and freedoms. “Despite their attempts, these efforts are futile and desperate,” Yahi added, warning against the influence these lobbies attempt to wield, particularly concerning Algeria’s national unity and security.

Colonial Nostalgia and Hostile Practices

Yahi went on to criticize certain French politicians and lobbies for their enduring colonial nostalgia, which he argued underpins their hostile actions against Algeria. He pointed out that some writers, who claim to advocate for freedom, were in fact promoting ideas that questioned Algeria’s national history and sought to revive colonial-era narratives. “These so-called intellectuals are nothing more than pawns of the French, Zionist, and Makhzen lobbies, working under the guise of literature and creativity,” he declared.

“These hostile practices are reflective of the suffering of those who cannot bear Algeria’s newfound strength in the international arena. Under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria pursues a policy of independence, equality, and mutual interests, and that is what these lobbies cannot accept,” Yahi continued.

Unwavering Support for Palestine

In addition to his remarks on French-Algerian relations, Yahi also addressed the ongoing Palestinian struggle. On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, he condemned the international community’s failure to take decisive action against the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. “We stand firm in our support for the Palestinian cause,” he affirmed. “The RND fully backs the unwavering position of the Algerian state, particularly the steadfast stance of President Tebboune, in supporting the just cause of Palestine.”

In conclusion, Yahi’s remarks highlighted the importance of national unity in defending Algeria’s sovereignty and international standing. He urged all Algerians, regardless of their sector or profession, to contribute to this collective effort to confront external challenges and ensure the continued growth and independence of the country.
