RND Secretary-General Mustapha Yahi Extols President Tebboune’s Achievements During Biskra Meeting

ALGIERS- During a gathering in Biskra, Mustapha Yahi, the newly appointed Secretary-General of the National Democratic Rally (RND), delivered a speech in which he praised President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his commitment to steering the country toward political, economic, and social recovery. Yahi commended Tebboune’s integrity and labeled him as a leader striving to uplift the nation on various fronts.

Despite the RND’s initial support for another candidate in the presidential election, Yahi highlighted that the party was the first to extend congratulations to Tebboune upon his victory. Yahi specifically lauded Tebboune’s “courageous” decisions over the past four years, such as refusing external indebtedness, committing to ensure food security, and safeguarding foreign exchange reserves and citizens’ purchasing power—a complex equation, according to Yahi.

Furthermore, Yahi acknowledged the progress made through implemented reforms and other achievements, including a surplus in the trade balance. He advocated for the construction of a robust political class deeply rooted in society, emphasizing the importance of political strength in building a strong state.

Yahi expressed the need for both a strong ruling majority and a formidable opposition, asserting that a powerful political landscape is essential for Algeria’s constructive development. He urged partners in the presidential majority to strengthen their political standing and called for a robust opposition, emphasizing that the country’s progress hinges on the strength of its political forces.

The RND Secretary-General also commended the decision to repatriate the skulls of Algerian resistance fighters decapitated during French colonization in the 19th century. Yahi revisited the history and political legacy of his party, highlighting its role in preserving the republic during tumultuous times.

In contrast to his predecessor, Yahi addressed the threat to the republican nature of the state during the years of internal conflict, emphasizing the RND’s contribution to combating terrorist groups alongside the People’s National Army (ANP) and other security forces during the tumultuous 1990s.

Yahi specifically mentioned the party’s creation as a response to terrorism, aiming to guarantee the continuity of the state as a republican institution. He lamented the resurgence of extremist and violent discourse reminiscent of the 1990s and pledged the RND’s commitment to thwarting extremist ideologies.
