ALGIERS- The Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Mikhail Bogdanov, has announced that preparations are underway for the visit of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Russia.
Bogdanov, who is also the Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa, made the announcement during the Russia and Islamic World Forum “Kazan Forum”.
Although the exact date of the visit has not yet been agreed, preparations have been ongoing for some time. President Tebboune had previously stated during an interview with Al-Jazeera that he had been invited to visit Russia by President Vladimir Putin. The visit is expected to establish a new dynamic of cooperation between the two countries, with joint action planned in several strategic, political, economic, and commercial areas. The large joint commission meeting and the signing of the in-depth strategic partnership agreement are among the issues that will be discussed during the visit.
“The ongoing effort to develop a new strategic document that reflects the high quality of Algerian-Russian relations is a significant step towards strengthening the bond between our two nations. Former Russian ambassador to Algeria, Igor Beliaev, has expressed his support for this initiative.
After months of refinement by both countries’ authorities, this agreement is expected to elevate the level of cooperation between Algiers and Moscow. The upcoming meeting will focus on the intention to continue collaboration in the energy market under the OPEC+ framework. Additionally, President Tebboune’s visit to Moscow will provide an opportunity to discuss Algeria’s membership in the BRICS.
