Sahel Scholars and Clerics League President: “We Will Stand Against Any Attempt to Disrupt Sahel Countries’ Relations with Algeria”

ALGIERS-In a recent statement, Aboubakr Wa-Ramad, the President of the League of Scholars and Clerics of Sahel Countries, lauded Algeria’s dedicated efforts towards neighboring nations, emphasizing its role in establishing peace, security, and fostering reconciliation in the African Sahel region. Simultaneously, he voiced concern over external forces attempting to erode the trust between Algeria and the Sahel nations.
In an interview on Algeria International Radio on Monday, December 18, 2023, Wa-Ramad expressed admiration for Algeria’s initiatives, acknowledging the appreciation of Sahel nations and the entire African continent for its contributions. He strongly criticized the endeavors of certain external powers to destabilize the relationship between Algeria and the people of the region.
“The efforts of Algeria are well-known and highly regarded by the people and countries of the Sahel African region. We cannot remain silent about these achievements, which we consider positive accomplishments at a rate of 90%. We engage in educating and enlightening our people, urging them not to succumb to such maneuvers and malicious schemes, as we know how to distinguish between friends and enemies of the Sahel region,” stated the speaker.
Highlighting the robust ties between Algeria and Sahel countries, deeply rooted in diplomacy and active involvement in conflict resolution, Wa-Ramad noted, “The strong relationship between Algeria and the Sahel countries is deeply ingrained, with multifaceted dimensions. Algeria has consistently engaged in active diplomacy for the benefit of reconciliation, whether in Libya, Mali, or more recently in Niger. Algeria successfully saved the region and the country from an imminent war through its mediation and diplomatic efforts to avert destructive external military intervention.”
Questioning the timing of suspicious moves, Wa-Ramad remarked, “We wonder about the timing of this dubious action at a time when signs of security and stability are emerging in the region. Algeria played a significant role politically, economically, spiritually, and culturally. We have concluded that many forces have been affected by the positive changes in the region’s countries. Hence, they are attempting to target Algeria and harm its interests. However, such maneuvers will not pass, and we will confront them in all forms.”
The President of the League of Scholars and Clerics of Sahel Countries affirmed that the league would counter these movements through its branches in Sahel nations and institutions. It will emphasize appreciation and salute their efforts for the benefit of the region’s people, urging them not to heed the campaigns of misinformation and highlighting those who have consistently stood by them in times of joy and adversity.
