ALGIERS- The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic’s Ambassador to Algeria, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, emphasized the inherent legitimacy and moral authority of the Sahrawi resistance in Western Sahara, attributing it to the steadfastness of its people and their unwavering commitment to continue the struggle against the Moroccan regime’s illegitimate occupation.

In a statement to national radio on Thursday, Ambassador Taleb Omar condemned the Moroccan regime’s resort to reprehensible tactics to maintain its presence in the occupied Sahrawi territories. He cited espionage, bribery, drug trafficking, and desecration of sacred sites among the regime’s strategies.

Highlighting the Moroccan regime’s aggressive attempts to assert control over Western Sahara’s airspace, Ambassador Taleb Omar warned of its sinister intentions to pursue new colonial projects. He expressed concern over the regime’s efforts to manipulate economically vulnerable countries into involvement in the conflict through financial inducements.

Emphasizing the Polisario Front’s eligibility to advocate on behalf of the Sahrawi people, Ambassador Taleb Omar urged the United Nations Security Council to reaffirm that Morocco has no legitimate right to invest or remain in Western Saharan territories. He asserted that any agreements between Morocco and the European Union involving Sahrawi waters, land, or airspace are categorically rejected.

Additionally, Ambassador Taleb Omar expressed optimism regarding recent court rulings affirming the separate status of Western Sahara and Morocco. He anticipated the resolution of colonialism through UN decisions and the organization of a referendum to determine the Sahrawi people’s future.

Acknowledging the efforts of the Friends of Western Sahara group, particularly Algeria and South Africa, Ambassador Taleb Omar commended their advocacy at the United Nations in rejecting colonial policies and supporting the Sahrawi people’s resistance against the Moroccan regime.

In conclusion, Ambassador Taleb Omar’s remarks underscored the Sahrawi people’s unwavering determination to uphold their right to self-determination and resist the Moroccan regime’s oppressive tactics, signaling a steadfast commitment to justice and international law in the struggle for freedom and sovereignty in Western Sahara.
