Sahrawi President Meets Russian Ambassador to Discuss Western Sahara Developments

ALGIERS- President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, welcomed the accredited Russian Ambassador to Algeria, Valerian Shuvaev, during an official meeting on Thursday. The Russian ambassador is leading a delegation of diplomats from donor countries on a visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps.
In a statement released by the Sahrawi Republic’s presidency, the meeting addressed the latest developments in the Western Sahara issue across various dimensions. The discussions particularly focused on the United Nations’ handling of the situation in Western Sahara, marked by the resumption of hostilities following Morocco’s violation of the ceasefire agreement and the Security Council’s recent Resolution 2703.
The visit of the Russian ambassador, along with envoys from donor nations, to the Sahrawi refugee camps underscores the international community’s ongoing interest and engagement in finding a just and lasting solution to the Western Sahara conflict. The Sahrawi leadership expressed its concerns regarding the realities of the war unfolding in the region and criticized the Security Council’s missed opportunities in the aftermath of Resolution 2703.
