Algiers, Algeria | July 15th, 2024 — The Algerian pharmaceutical company Saidal has set ambitious goals to achieve 10% of its revenue through exports in the near term, with a primary focus on the African market, announced CEO Ouassim Kouidri on Monday in Algiers.
Active Participation in African Tenders
“Saidal actively participates in tenders launched by African countries. In the short term, the group aims to achieve 10% of its revenue through exports,” stated Kouidri during a signing ceremony for a framework agreement with the Algerian Insurance and Export Guarantee Company (Cagex). This agreement is intended to support Saidal in its strategy for growth and international market positioning.
Expanding to New Markets in Europe, Asia, and America
Kouidri highlighted that Saidal has developed a new policy and strategy to promote the export of medicines and raw materials to foreign markets. Currently, the group exports its products to Libya and has begun registering its medicines in more than 10 African countries, including Senegal, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, and South Africa. Saidal aims to meet the growing demand for pharmaceuticals in the African market and to expand into new international markets, particularly in Europe, Asia, and America. “Saidal’s goal is to establish itself as a major player in the African pharmaceutical market. The export policy is also designed to support the state’s efforts to diversify the economy and reduce dependence on oil exports,” Kouidri added.
Production and Expansion Efforts
Regarding production, Saidal’s average annual production is 220 million units. In 2023, production increased by 14.11% compared to 2022. Currently, Saidal operates eight production units and has initiated the construction of nine new specialized factories designed according to international standards. These factories will focus on producing raw materials to increase the integration rate, including insulin crystals, antibiotics, cardiology, diabetology, oncology, biosimilars, anti-inflammatories, and botox. Additionally, Saidal plans to expand its product range by adding more than 120 new products to its current catalog. The company also aims to develop the production of several vaccines that are currently imported.
This strategic expansion underscores Saidal’s commitment to becoming a key player in the global pharmaceutical industry and contributing to Algeria’s economic diversification efforts.
