ALGIERS- In a response to the growing drought crisis, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Wakfs has issued a call to imams across the nation, urging them to lead Salat El-Istisqa next Saturday at 9:00 a.m. The ministry’s directive, conveyed through a press release on Tuesday, December 6, reflects the nation’s united plea for divine intervention in the face of worsening water shortages.

This special prayer is a time-honored tradition in Islamic culture, invoked during periods of severe drought. The prayer seeks divine mercy and intervention, imploring Allah for rainfall to rejuvenate the parched earth.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Wakfs has emphasized the importance of this collective spiritual endeavor as an opportunity for the entire nation to come together and beseech the heavens for relief from the drought. In their press release, they have called upon imams in mosques, both urban and rural, to lead the Salat El-Istisqa, guiding the faithful in their quest for Allah’s aid.

The ministry has reminded people of “the provisions and etiquette” of rain prayers, such as; repentance, seeking forgiveness, responding to grievances, maintaining ties of kinship, and fasting before performing this prayer, in addition to giving alms to the poor and needy to spread mercy and social solidarity among people,” the statement explained.
