Algerian Diplomat Pledges to Propel AU’s Agenda 2063 and Enhance Institutional Efficiency
Algiers, Algeria | February 15th, 2025 —In a momentous development for African diplomacy, Algerian Ambassador Salma Malika Haddadi has been elected as Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), a position of strategic importance within the continental body. Shortly after taking the oath of office on Saturday, February 15, Haddadi made a resolute commitment to reinforcing the African Union’s (AU) global standing and ensuring the effective implementation of its Agenda 2063—a blueprint for Africa’s sustainable development and economic transformation.
Haddadi, a seasoned diplomat with an extensive track record in international affairs, underscored the critical role of the Deputy Chairperson in ensuring the seamless functioning of the Commission. “This position is pivotal in enabling the AU Commission, led by the Chairperson and composed of commissioners across various sectors, to operate efficiently and to drive forward the continent’s collective aspirations,” she emphasized.
