ALGIERS, August 8, 2023 – Pedro Sanchez, the departing Prime Minister of Spain, found himself at the center of a political storm after his recent vacation to Marrakesh, Morocco. His images, along with those of his family enjoying their time in that city, sparked a firestorm of criticism from his political adversaries.

The Popular Party wasted no time in denouncing the visit as an act of provocation and arrogance on Sanchez’s part. Miguel Tellado, Vice President of the Popular Party, did not mince words, expressing his discontent and labeling the trip as a sign of disrespect towards political responsibilities. Tellado stated, “The Prime Minister left the country, ignoring his political commitments, and this choice demonstrates his lack of consideration.”

As reported by “Europe Press,” Miguel Tellado went on to comment that Sanchez’s decision to take a vacation at this juncture is a clear “confirmation of the loss in the last elections.” During an appearance on the “Onda Zero” channel, Tellado argued that the Prime Minister’s trip underscores his arrogance and his inability to accept electoral defeat gracefully.

This episode has ignited a broader debate within the Spanish political landscape. Many experts and observers believe that Sanchez’s holiday in Marrakesh constitutes a strategic error with far-reaching implications. Spanish journalist David Pirro weighed in, noting that the choice of Morocco as a vacation destination has raised concerns beyond national boundaries. Pirro argued, “While this was a private trip, the decision to vacation in Morocco raises several eyebrows.”

Pirro’s concerns center on the intricate geopolitical dynamics involving Morocco and the Western Sahara region. The Spanish journalist pointed to Spain’s historical connection to the issue of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and the deviations from international law that have taken place. This holiday, in Pirro’s view, stands as a perplexing mix of “unconsciousness, arrogance, and recklessness.”
