Sanofi Aims to Diversify Pharmaceutical Portfolio in Algeria, Explores New Partnerships

ALGIERS – The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, held discussions with Sanofi’s Vice President, Marc Antoine Lucigny, Sanofi’s General Manager in Algeria, Eduardo Arce Pelada, and Sanofi’s Director of Public and Economic Affairs, Amin Issawi. The talks centered on the latest developments in Sanofi’s production projects in Algeria, as outlined in a ministry statement.
During the meeting, Minister Aoun expressed keen interest in Sanofi’s proposals to expand and diversify the range of pharmaceutical products in Algeria, emphasizing a potential partnership with the public group Saidal for vaccine production.
In response, Ali Aoun urged the signing of the agreement before the end of December, emphasizing the need to commence production promptly, according to the ministry’s press release.
Discussing the insulin production project, Sanofi’s General Manager confirmed the initiation of manufacturing for the first and second generations of this medication. The minister underscored the importance of adhering to specified timelines and developing additional products for diabetic patients.
Regarding the expansion of projects, Minister Aoun highlighted Sanofi’s four-decade presence in Algeria, emphasizing that the ministry would provide all necessary facilities to maximize drug production in collaboration with Sanofi, aiming to eliminate potential shortages.
Aoun emphasized the recent stability achieved in insulin production, covering the local market and mitigating previous fluctuations. The minister concluded by stressing the imperative to promote the local pharmaceutical industry in partnership with pharmaceutical companies, fostering sovereignty and self-sufficiency in the sector.
