ALGIERS- Almost half of the Schengen visa applications submitted by Algerians in 2022 were rejected, according to statistical data from the Schengen mechanism reported by the Schengenvisainfo website.

Thus, the rejection rate of requests issued by Algerians stood at 48.2% in 2022, far ahead of its Maghreb neighbors, Tunisia and Morocco with 30% and 30.3% respectively, according to the same source.

In 2021, France had imposed drastic restrictions on the granting of visas to applicants from Maghreb countries (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia), citing the refusal of the governments of these respective countries to issue consular passes for deportation to the borders of their nationals in an irregular situation in France.
