Scholar Lekhemissi Bezzaz Denounces Morocco’s Alliance with Zionist Entity, Labels It as Complicity Against Palestinians

Algiers, Algeria | October 17th, 2024 — In a striking denunciation, Lekhemissi Bezzaz, Secretary-General of the League of Scholars and Preachers of the Sahel, voiced deep concern over Morocco’s growing and perplexing alignment with the Zionist entity. During his interview on Algerian International Radio’s “Guest of the International” program on Wednesday, Bezzaz criticized the Moroccan regime’s decision to extend overtures to the Zionist entity, even as it wages war and commits atrocities in Gaza.

Bezzaz expressed disbelief at the Moroccan monarchy’s overt support for the Zionist regime, which he referred to as a “war criminal” condemned by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). “It is beyond comprehension that the Moroccan regime, under the guise of diplomatic cooperation, is extending a hand to the Zionists who are currently engaged in a massacre in Gaza. This is an affront to the very values of justice and humanity,” Bezzaz stated.

He further emphasized that this collaboration between Morocco and the Zionist entity manifests itself in alarming ways, including opening economic and political channels, granting Zionists access to Moroccan property, and even contemplating citizenship rights for them through legal frameworks. “These acts represent an unequivocal alliance of extremism and terrorism, reflecting the world’s increasing collusion in such heinous activities,” Bezzaz added, underscoring the severity of the situation.

While condemning these developments, Bezzaz lauded Algeria’s robust approach to addressing regional challenges, highlighting the nation’s leadership in combating extremism and terrorism in the Sahel region. He emphasized that Algeria’s experience in counterterrorism has been unparalleled, benefiting the broader Sahel region by fostering stability and security. “Algeria’s model is a beacon of hope for nations in the Sahel that are grappling with the same threats of radicalism and violence,” he remarked.

In his broader analysis of regional politics, Bezzaz also criticized the recent remarks by certain officials from the Sahel region who, in his words, disregarded historical realities by downplaying the deep-rooted ties between Algeria and the Sahel. He suggested that these statements were influenced by foreign actors seeking to protect their own interests while sowing discord and enmity between nations. “The ongoing conflict in the Sahel is fueled by external forces, determined to fracture unity and propagate their own agendas,” Bezzaz concluded, underscoring the need for vigilance against such tactics.

Bezzaz’s strong condemnation of Morocco’s actions and his warning about the consequences of foreign interference in the Sahel have resonated widely, reflecting the growing concerns over the deepening partnership between Rabat and Tel Aviv.
