SEAAL’s 2024 Achievements in Algiers, Tipasa: Advancing Water Management and Service Quality

Algiers, Algeria | January 15th, 2025 — The Water and Sanitation Company (SEAAL) in Algiers and Tipasa has released its comprehensive 2024 annual report, detailing significant initiatives and achievements that have positively impacted the lives of residents across both provinces. The report highlights SEAAL’s efforts in water resource mobilization, infrastructure improvements, service digitalization, and workforce development, all aimed at enhancing public welfare and environmental preservation.

SEAAL successfully mobilized 387 million cubic meters of water in 2024. Of this volume, Algiers received 320 million cubic meters, with 51% sourced from seawater desalination plants, 27% from groundwater, and 22% from surface water. Tipasa, on the other hand, was allocated 67 million cubic meters, with 38% coming from desalination, 32% from groundwater, and 30% from surface water. These strategic allocations were meticulously planned to meet the population’s needs while ensuring water security.

The company also emphasized water quality, conducting over 12,000 physio-chemical and bacteriological tests and at least 282,000 chlorine analyses throughout the year. These tests were performed by SEAAL’s central laboratory, accredited by the Algerian Accreditation Body (ALGERAC) under ISO 17025 standards, as well as operational laboratories across key stations. The results confirmed strict compliance with both national and international water quality standards.

Operational and technical teams reclaimed over 8 million cubic meters of water in 2024 through optimized recovery efforts. Furthermore, SEAAL executed 28,000 repair operations, including 23,000 interventions in Algiers and 5,000 in Tipasa, ensuring the efficiency and reliability of the water distribution network.

On the sanitation front, SEAAL treated 100 million cubic meters of wastewater through eight treatment plants serving Algiers and Tipasa. Additionally, the company cleaned 1,300 kilometers of pipelines using state-of-the-art technology and equipment. These extensive maintenance efforts significantly boosted the sewer network’s capacity, safeguarding public health and the environment.

Digital transformation remained a key focus in 2024, with SEAAL launching an upgraded version of its online payment platform, “Faturati,” allowing subscribers to settle bills remotely using bank cards or the national gold card. Notably, 320,000 electronic payment transactions were recorded this year. Moreover, the company introduced the “Khadamati” platform, offering a wide range of remote services for enhanced customer convenience.

SEAAL also piloted a smart metering project in the administrative district of Bab Ezzouar as part of its smart measurement initiative aimed at improving consumption accuracy and resource management efficiency.

To further enhance communication and service transparency, SEAAL sent over 3 million SMS notifications throughout the year, keeping customers informed about water supply updates, service changes, and payment reminders.

Workforce development remained central to SEAAL’s operational excellence strategy. The company dedicated 14,000 training days in 2024, benefiting 2,808 employees, representing 43% of the total workforce. These training programs, conducted at the Water Management and Professions Training Center, covered technical skills, management, and support services, reinforcing the company’s commitment to continuous professional development.
